Committees

Magna Community Living Services is proud of the fine work of its various committees and the dedication of their members. We are encouraged by the amount of active participation by individuals, family, friends and employees, all on a volunteer basis. Our various committees are dedicated to their purpose and diligent in their tasks. This is the results-oriented spirit which has given our agency the "outside-look" that enables us to "see how we are seen" by those we serve, as well as non-agency entities.

Entertainment Committee
This committee is one of the more active and visible committees within the agency as it is greatly responsible for the many social and community activities in which our individuals are frequently involved. The purpose of this committee is to provide affordable, fun entertainment opportunities for our individuals and their staff. The members of this committee are individuals, Habilitation Training Specialists and Administrative Staff. They have regular meetings at various individual's homes to share in fun and fellowship, not to mention delicious snacks! During their meetings, they discuss the upcoming events to ensure that all consumers who wish to can be highly involved with the decision process regarding dances, picnics, cookouts, and fun field trips.

Not everything the Entertainment Committee does is elaborate. One of their most important functions is to ensure that individuals and the staff and families are aware of upcoming (and often free) community activities such as Mayfest, the State Fair, Baseball Games, other Agency's dances, and participation and support for the Inter-Agency sports League games. This committee is a priceless part of what makes Magna Community Living Services a successful agency.

Human Rights Committee
This committee is dedicated to monitoring and advocacy that is separate from the provision of services. Specifically, it addresses the issues of protection of individual rights, program conditions, policy and procedure review, and resolution of complaints or concerns related to the protection of individual's rights. No employees of Magna are members of the committee. Instead, to guarantee non-partiality, this committee consists of one individual and two members of the general public. This dedicated group meets at least on a quarterly basis. This committee is yet another important link in aiding Magna in providing quality services.

Safety Committee
The purpose of this committee is to review procedures for Magna as a whole. The members of this committee consist of Administrative Staff as well as Habilitation Training Specialist. As a group, they monitor any major or minor accidents and make recommendations as to what measures can be taken to prevent a similar occurrence. A few of their recommendations that have been implemented are: purchasing lifting belts for particular homes, additional safety training for the home, and making each staff member responsible for inspecting the home in which they are working and document their findings, correcting anything they are able to, and notifying their Program Coordinator. Through this committee, we are increasing safety in the home, which in turn increases the safety of our individuals and employees.
